In the summer of 2023, I attended a documentary filmmaking workshop with Actuality Abroad in Panajachel, Guatemala. I wanted to learn how to tell a good story through documentary.

Taking Flight was my first ‘official’ crack at documentary storytelling. I wanted to tell Ingrid’s story specifically because she has dedicated herself to her people, her country, despite the fact that her country’s government kidnapped her father [whom she never saw again]. The fact that Ingrid services her community after what happened to her family is very powerful and incredible; I knew right away that this was a story I wanted to tell.

Primarily filmed with Canon cameras, this film was shot and edited in four weeks.
